CHANEL LITTLE BLACK – KILLING THAT COST PER WEAR

by Claire Chanelle

Welcome to another CHANEL LITTLE BLACK JACKET look. If you didn’t catch my previous look wear this jacket click here. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram here because I have worn this jacket a few times there and don’t get round to taking photos for the blog. There is always so much outfit inspo on there. Anyway as you can imagine a CHANEL jacket is a huge investment, luxury piece of ready to wear (RTW) as much as I love the jackets they have to be cost per wear affective. Cost per wear means that I have to wear a piece of clothing or what ever it may be, more than a certain amount of times in order to make it an investment. Investment also means, it has to be good quality so it stands the test of time. Classic things go a long way but it doesn’t necessarily have to be classic, as long a you wear it a lot.

HOW DOES COST PER WEAR WORK?

Here is an example of cost per wear. I am actually going to give you four/five/six examples so you really see my point. Please note I did not event this, people have no doubt been doing this for years. I came up with it on my own accord, no one told me and I didn’t read it anywhere. It is however pure common sense and many people live by this rule.

GOOD INVESTMENT

BALMAIN BLACK CLASSIC BLAZER – £1325

It’s a blazer and it’s black. I can wear this a lot, with many outfits to many occasions. I can wear it in ten years time because it is classic.

I will wear this a minimum of 200 over the next two years (I wear blazers a lot)

1325 divided by 200 = 6.60. This means this jacket is £6.60 cost per wear which is a total bargain. Lets say I only wear this jacket 100 times in two years, the cost per wear is still only £13.20. It also has a resell price after I have worn it all those times. This is an investment piece.

GOOD INVESTMENT

BLACK LEATHER TROUSERS – £500

I will live in these, wear them everywhere. Enough said.

500 divided by 500 = 0 These are basically free haha

OKAY INVESTMENT

BALMAIN BRIGHT PINK CLASSIC BLAZER – £1325

It’s a blazer so I can wear it a lot, however it’s bright pink so it will not go with all my looks, it’s not ideal for every occasion, it’s summery so can’t wear it all year round and the resale of a bright pink jacket is not as appealing as classic colours like black or nude. I will prob wear this 40-50 times in two years.

1325 divided by 45 = 29.40. This means this jacket is £29.44. This is still a good investment and I would way up how much I love it and what other pink jackets do I have.

BAD INVESTMENT.

FLOWER PRINTED DOLCE & GABBANAB DRESS – £1550

It’s a dress that is a cute day time length and I can wear it a good few times at weddings, occasions or when I want to look nice. It’s also a dress so I can’t mix and match like a skirt and top and how many times will I wear the same dress to a wedding? We all know you don’t wear a dress too much. Also one food stain and it’s ruined forever. I would prob wear this 4-5 times.

1550 divided by 5 = 310. This is not worth it for me. Of course if I outrageously love it or it’s for a special occasion like my wedding lunch (I had a bbq the day after my wedding; then yes I would buy it. But I wouldn’t even spend this on my birthday dress, it’s just not worth it to me. If I had unlimited budget or a bigger budget that what I have now then yes I would buy more pieces like this but I don’t. I also don’t believe in throwing my money away so I would still be conscious of what I buy.

BAD INVESTMENT

ZARA BLACK BLAZER – £60

It’s a black blazer I can wear over and over again. However the fit and fabric isn’t great so I am going to reach for my Balmain one 99.9% of the time. It could also be one of those Zara pieces that everyone has and then I really do not want to wear. It won’t stand the test of time and the resale value is super low, lets say non existent. I will prob wear this 3 times then get board.

60 divided by 3 = 20 As you can see this is more money cost per wear than both Balmain blazers. I won’t feel as good wearing it and I have just wasted £60 that I could have put in my Balmain blazer saving fund.

EXCELLENT INVESTMENT

A BAG! A bag is your very best investment and a great way to start a luxury wardrobe. You cannot go wrong with a CHANEL CLASSIC BAG. You will wear EVERYDAY, day or night, special occasions or to work. They are so practical, it makes me feel so special and the resale value in insane, you will sell it for more than you paid for it, fact. I understand these bag are super expensive. Watch my “HOW I SAVE FOR LUXURY VIDEO” here. I bought my first CHANEL at 23 and it took me 18 months to save for on a basic salary. It wasn’t the first designer bag I bought so start off with a brand that has longevity like SAINT LAURENT, GIVENCHY or buy pre loved.

CHANEL BAG – 3900 divided by….. I can’t even make this calculation, I will 100% wear this more than thousands of times, it’s practically free and the joy it brings me is totally worth it.

SAINT LAURENT BLACK CHAIN BAG – £1050 divided by 200 = £5.25

I have listed some items below that are good pieces to start a luxury wardrobe and great cost per wear. If you would like to test my theory all you have to do it take the cost of the item, divid it by how many times you will wear it then there is your cost per wear. I swear by it. You can use it for anything.

Such a good post and I agree! I also think that it’s a mindset that you have to get into to purchase luxury items and see it as a good investment. Looking at cost-per-wear is an excellent way to changing thinking.

i love you girl but please edit your blog posts, your spelling and grammar is horrific sometimes and makes it hard to read. i’d understand if your first language wasn’t English but it appears to be and i’m sure your blog readers would appreciate the extra effort.
