Chloe Jade Green’s debute shoe collection

by Claire Chanelle

CJG launches her shoe collection today. I’m not sure how I feel about this.

I can not help think if Chloe deserves to have a shoe line? I don’t think she does. She is just the daughter of Sir Phillip Green and very fortunate. Has she been to design school? Does she understand shoe construction? Did she design everything herself? Did she sweat blood and tears to get where she is? Hmmmmmm. At the end of the day this is reality and this is going to happen. So we shouldn’t be jealous of her fortune.

When I first read the concept of the ‘green’ heels. I laughed out loud. This is Christian Louboutins trade mark. If every new designer covered their soles in a block colour it wouldn’t be special. Remember when YSL tried to introduce blue soles? Yeah her surname is Green I get it. But still I expected more creativity from her marketing/design team. Not a fan of the green sole. It’s been done and it isn’t original. I guess she knows her shoes as she probably has 100s of pairs.

The price ranges from £80 – £300 and you can purchase online at Topshop from today or in the Oxford Street store.

Can you remember the first pair of shoes you really fell in love with?

When I was younger I fell in love with a pair of my mum’s Gucci shoes. They were black with a platform and gold buckles, I found a way to make them fit and refused to take them off!

What is it about shoes that you love?

I love how shoes can make an outfit and your legs look longer. Wearing something simple with a fabulous pair shoes is a fail-safe outfit. Girls just can’t have enough shoes!

What are your favourite shoes ever?

I don’t really have a favourite but if I had to pick it would be my Jimmy Choobiker boots, my daffodil crystallised Christian Louboutins and my Giuseppe Zanotti wedges.

Which shoe designers do you admire the most?

I think Charlotte Olympia is amazing and love how you can spot her shoes from a mile away, Christian Louboutin (who doesn’t love him?) Guiseppe Zanotti and Azzedine Alaia.

What inspired you to create your own shoe collection?

I have the biggest love for shoes and thought it was the best place for me to start. There were so many ideas and things I really wanted and couldn’t find. My girlfriends and I sat down and spoke about shoes, what we wanted, needed and everything kind of started from there.

What kind of girl are you designing for?

I’m not aiming for a one particular girl. All girls who like to go out and party, or love a high wedge for summer will totally get this collection.

Who would you love to see wearing your shoes?

ANYONE! The best feeling will be to see someone I don’t knowing rocking the Green Sole. It will be the best feeling.

How did you go about the design process?

I sat down and started brainstorming ideas and designs with a small team. I changed my office into one big mood board and went through magazines and boxes of fabric swatches, vintage trims, studs etc to find inspiration and pinned up anything I loved! I then sat down with a designer and watched all my ideas turn into actual shoes.

What’s been the best part of designing your collection?

Seeing a shoe on a piece of paper that I designed to then waiting to have it in hand as a first sample has to be the best feeling.

Do you have a favourite style from your collection?

I love the Misha wedge. I can see myself living in that all summer!

Do you always wear heels?

No not always, I basically live in my biker boots in the day.

How many shoes do you think you own?

Maybe over 200…

What can we expect to see next from CJG?

There will definitely be an AW12 collection and I might explore other product areas – I haven’t decided just yet which direction I want to go in.

Heres is the collection, what do you think?

I am not crazy about those shoes, I would only consider the ones with green brocade all over, only because I am naturally attracted to glittery things 🙂

If I had a rich daddy who’d help me launch my shoe collection, would I go for it, hell yeah, there would be a new era of shoes- all glitter, sparkle, diamonds and gold. Like Ch. Louboutin on steroids! Yes … a girl can dream haha

Thank God I found your blog! I thought I was the only one who’s not at all impressed with Chloe Green’s shoe collection! I’m a uni student in Scotland and loads of girls I know seem to be obsessed with this collection. I just find it to be overpriced and a bit of a Loboutin rip off (yes like you said the sole and just the design in general!). If I were to pay £120 for a pair of shoes created by rich daddy’s girl, I’d rather fork out £30 to buy a second hand and extremely gently used pair of Louboutin ones from Chic and Seek (which I did). Trying to figure out how to follow your blog and ask for a discount code from you. xx
