LET ME INTROUDCE TO PARADISE ALSO KNOWN AS VELASSARU, MALDIVES
Welcome to part 2 of my honeymoon, if you missed part one you catch up here and read all about my stay at KURUMA, MALDIVES. Also I am beyond excited to announce (drum roll) my first ever YouTube video has just been published. I did put together a little intro before hand which you can watch here but this is my first ever real video. Please go check it out and let me know what you think. It would mean so much to me if you would subscribe.
After three days at the Kurumba we were fully relaxed, adjusted to the time difference and ready to hit the second destination of our trip.
The second part of out honeymoon and final resort in the Maldives was with VELASSURU.
One of the reasons why we chose this hotel was because it looked like your typical dreamy Maldives destination, this was what I envisioned when I dreamt about one day visiting this country. This resort features the villa huts that look like they are hovering above the water and it just looked really relaxing and chic. Another important factor about this resort is the location. As I mentioned in Series 1, Paris is terrified of flying and refused to fly in a sea plane. This really limited our options and made it easier to choose a resort. For us this resort was already in our top five, when we found out we didn’t need to fly in the sea plane we booked it straight away. The hotel Velassaru is approximately 15/20 minutes boat ride from the Kurumba Resort. We were given cold towels and virgin cocktail on the way there, it was really fun and probable the best hotel transfer I have ever had.
On arrival I felt like it was a dream, the sea is so blue, the sand is pure white and there were people dressed in all white waving at us…. no but really I think this is what it would be like arriving in heaven. I am trying to find the words to describe to you how breath taking this island is. I guess you can scroll down and see for your self by looking at the photo’s but then try to imagine a cool breeze, warm air and the sound of waves. Then add delicious food, gold standard service and a water villa that will blow your mind.
The resort is quite small, you can walk around the island or hop on a buggy if you are too relaxed to walk. The vibe is cool, chic, luxury and relaxing. I felt incredibly relaxed and even in the rain (we had one afternoon of rain) this place was beautiful and simply a experience I will not forget. The setting, the room, the pool, the food, the activities by night and during the day just made our honeymoon unforgettable. I can not thank Valassaru enough for how well we were treated. The resort is well thought out, everything just flows and everything seems very new and modern. There are little pockets of heaven everywhere you look. Whether it’s a cocktail at the Chill Bar to watch the sunset, ten minutes napping in a hammock, an hour at the spa, or dinner at one of the restaurants you will constantly feel entertained and content. Whilst I was there you asked me a few questions, I answered lot’s via social media but I wanted to share with you the most common questions.
- Are you bored in the evening, what is there to do? In the evenings there was plenty to do. Admittedly you are on an island so you can not venture out of the resort, but that’s just how it is in the Maldives. Personally I felt so relaxed I loved wondering around with no pressure to do anything. With that said we had plenty to do; listen to live bands in the bar, restaurants or you can rent a film for free and watch them in your room. My most fond memory from our stay was the outdoor cinema. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the staff setting up the our door cinema. The cinema is my favourite hobby, for me this was the perfect night. We had warm popcorn, a cocktail, a blanket and we watch “The Walk” under the stars, it was magical.
- Is it worth paying for the water villa rooms in the ocean? The villa huts are pricey yes but if you can afford it I would say it’s worth it. It’s an experience in it’s self and you can not believe how amazing it is to wake up and see the ocean directly in front of you. Our balcony was totally private and the pool was too. Our hut was what made this holiday so my answer is yes.
- What is the atmosphere like and is the food expensive/nice? This was a good question because yes we did notice the food was expensive and I fully recommend you book your stay will full board or inclusive. We had no worries regarding the bill at the end of our stay because we chose to stay will the all inclusive option. Did you notice how much weight Paris put on?! The restaurants did not feel at all like an all inclusive meal, the food was served the same as if you were visiting a 5* restaurant. I suffer from Crohn’s and I get sick when I travel, I basically have to avoid eating because icky foods upset my tummy. Hands down this is the only place/country I have ever visited where I felt 100% well. I am not sure if this was the hotel or the Maldives in general but I ate so much and loved the food.
I hope you enjoy the photos, if there is anything you need to know please leave a comment in the box. If you are not already aware, there is a video on YouTube sharing my Maldives holiday, click here to watch it. On Tuesday I will be publishing a “Maldives Style Diary”. I had so many outfits to share, I felt it was be more organised to split this hotel into two articles. Stay tuned for my outfit edit in two days.
FOOD AND DRINK
As I just mentioned in the introduction, the food and cocktails at Velassuru were the best we have both experienced. The cocktails tasted as good as they looked and we drank them all day long. This is why I recommend booking your stay with the full indulgence package, that way you do not have to worry about a huge food bill.
We both loved the restaurants but we had different favourites. Paris loved “Sands” I liked the fact your feet were literally in the sand but my favourite was the Italian or the pizza by the pool. On the last night we had a little argument because I wanted to visit the Italian again he wanted to visit Sands. Obviously I won.
The chefs were so great, they always came out to chat to us, and on two occasions Paris was made dishes that were not even on the menu. This is the kind of service you can expect to experience at the Velassuru.
The staff were really friendly and always chatting to us. The Maldivian people have a reputation for being kind and friendly and that was the case, we experienced lovely people everywhere we went. We did however disappoint one waiter when he realised Paris was not Cesc Fabregas, Google that name and you will see it’s a footballer that looks a lot like Paris.

VALASSURU BY NIGHT
As I mentioned the resort has plenty to do in the evenings. More than I expected but at the same time you can totally be alone and away from the other guests if you want to. My favoutir evening was by far the outdoor cinema. I only have iPhone images of this night but it’s better to show you than nothing at all. You can see in the evening the weather was warm in January and I could wear a dress. There was a lovely cool breeze and I always felt fresh. Some nights I wore a cardigan but the evening weather was perfect for me. The skies always liked pink and purple and with the platforms lit up it was so beautiful.
SUNSET CRUISE
One of the activities the hotel has to offer is a sunset cruise. The weather was fairly hazy so we didn’t see much of the sunset but it was still stunning and a lovely thing to do before dinner. This was a real honeymoon moment. My gorgeous playsuit is from The Dolls House Boutique, don’t order yours just yet because on Tuesday I am giving you a discount code!
OUR WATER VILLA WITH POOL
I can not believe I do not have any images of the villa, that is terrible and I only have one of the outside. The reason for this is because I filmed a video which you can watch here. I am new to YouTube, this was my first ever video that I put together, I didn’t quite understand how to juggle photos and a video. You can see in full action the room in the video and you can also click here to visit the Velassuru website and our room as well as all the other options to book. We had stairs (leading to heaven) going into the ocean, which was shallow and perfect for snorkelling. Each balcony has a supply of flippers and masks so no need to bring your own. The room seemed bigger to me in real life, the balcony was huge and so was the actual room and bathroom. The toilet looked over the water, which was so surreal to see when you have just woken up. The water villas are big enough to live in, they were beautiful.
FAVOURITE SNAPS
All the outfits you can see below will be listed and explained in my next article which will be published on Tuesday. If there is an outfit you desperately need to know about and you can not wait until Tuesday, just leave me a comment below and I will get back to you. I have linked a few pieces in the credits but the main edit will be in the next article. Remember I will give you a discount code for my lace playsuit too. The lace robe is from Amanda Barden. I wore another version for my wedding day, I just love this robes. They are perfect for weddings and honeymoons, they are out of this world. My double buckle belt is from here. This was the only website I found within the UK that stocked this belt, so I recommend buying from here if you are based in Europe.
CORAL RESCUE
When we are on holiday I need to constantly entertain Paris, he can not sit still. I was worried about this because the Maldives is all about relaxing. Whilst I sunbathed Paris was diving and snorkelling which is all free of charge. I did join him for the “Coral Rescue” I thought this was be a unique experience and of course we are helping the environment. Our guide was so passionate about the corals and the ocean it was great to talk to him and have a lesson in life. He was telling me about the sharks, like huge sharks when he goes diving. I was scared just listing to him. In this activity you get a chance to help restore the corals and bring them back to life by creating them a home. It was really fun, I loved every second of it. We even got to name and date or little coral house, the hotel will then email us an updated in a few months time. It is nice to know that right now there is a coral house in the Maldivian ocean that we made.
THE SPA
Of course I paid a visit to the resort spa, I actually went twice. I had a full body couples massage and a facial. Both were incredible, I know I keep using this word but everything was “incredible.” I felt so relaxed in the spa I wanted to go back and have a facial. I booked a facial because I find them relaxing butI was so surprised the next day because my skin was, I am not exaggerating; it was flawless. I woke up and thought woah, what did that therapist do to me. I chose the “Brilliance” facial, it really did make me look brilliant so I recommend that treatment. You can see below the face mask that she pulled off my face! The setting for the spa is a dream, there is an infinity water jacuzzi. If you do not book a water villa hut, don’d worry you can visit the spa pool and still get these dramatic photos. Getting those snaps for social media is vital 😉
SAYING GOODBYE
I was SAD, seriously sad to leave this place. We stayed for four nights and it was not enough at all. I didn’t even have one full day of laying on the beach because I snorkelling, coral rescuing, eating or in the spa. I fell like seven days at a minimum wood have been better.
When we left the sky was pink, the air was breezy and warm, everything just looked so tranquil and beautiful I just did not want to leave. The only thing that stopped me from sulking was the fact that we were heading to Sri Lanka. I probably shouldn’t say this but when we arrived in Sri Lanka I was a little but moody because it wasn’t the Maldives. When we arrived in India I was still missing the Maldives. I did get into the swing of things but it did take a while to snap out of the tranquil Maldivian mode.
Onto the next destination.
