By the third day of fashion week it was concrete that I was not going to wear heels to run from show to show as my feet cannot take it! I do it every year first day heels then by the third day I am back in flats so I chose my comfy Toga & Pulla booties which matched my white quilted Topshop skirt and then I teamed it with the parental advisory jumper that I showed you last week. My statement piece for this simple look: my Prada sunglasses.
After Somerset House we popped over to the Me Hotel to warm up in the Ugg Hub as it was freezing that day. The views were over Somerset house and Big Ben and the hotel is so quirky I loved it and definitely recommend staying there if you are visiting London. After snuggling in the Ugg blankets and having a chat with all the guys I was all relaxed but it was time for the Topshop Unique show!!
Myself and Tamara made it to the Unique show just in time, we briskly walked through the crowds amongst the photographers screaming Tallulah’s name!!! I know you’re as shocked as I was, I think she had so much attention the previous day everyone knew her name. Bringing Tallulah was not intended we got stuck in traffic and I did not have time to drop her home so I held her proudly and hoped for the best!
This was my first Topshop Unique show so I was secretly very excited as Unique is a brand I have been wearing since uni (a while ago) and it was the first high end brand I ever purchased and I am still wearing the brand today so of course it is so exciting to see the new collections from a brand I love and wear. Being a blogger I have a lot of international blogging friends so I feel proud that Unique, such an inspirational brand, is from British soil and a major player over London Fashion Week, go UK!
The elements I dislike about London’s fashion week are the venues they are slightly disappointing when you compare them to the venues in New York and Paris however I had heard good things regarding the Topshop show space and it made all the difference for me.
Walking down to the show space across the slippery wet planks of wood I lost all track of the rain from the pure excitement (and I am one to moan in the rain) and before I could take in my surroundings we were told to hurry along because the show was starting. I heard a yelp as I entered and a pair of hands grabbing Tallulah, this was my first meeting with the lovely Darren Kennedy who is by the way the ultimate dog lover, we chatted about how much we love dogs and he showed me photos of his baby Harry AND THEN we both remembered where we were and got back into fashion mode! Darren kindly held Tallulah for me so I could take photos, just imagine if she’d jumped off my lap?!
The front row profile had a quintessential vibe with the main attraction being Kate Moss and her stunning daughter Lila Grace, next to Kate was Sir Philip Green and his son Brandon, Pixie Geldof, Daisy Lowe and a personal favourite of mine Ashley Madekwe.
Creative director Kate Phelan and head designer Emma Farrow explained how the collection was inspired by summer holidays and interior design from South Africa and Morocco and you can totally see this is the printed fabric and burnt orange, desert inspired textures. Even though the whole zolpidemsleep.com vibe felt beachy and summery it did not at all feel Californian or Caribbean which is what I always think of when it comes to anything resembling the sun or beach life, it still felt English which is certainly a hard concept to create going by the English summers we have.
The pieces were effortless and I can see myself wearing each piece sitting over Hyde Park with my friends or at a beach party in Ibiza. While the barely there straps flowed down from each model’s perfectly sculpted shoulders and backs each garment made me forget we were hitting winter and now I can not wait for summer again.
I seriously need to discuss Jourdan Dunn’s side boob! My god, I know she is a model and I know we should expect perfection in the likes of Jourdan but when you are in front of models you see they are just human and no one is perfect, however Jourdan is perfect and that’s that. When I first saw the floor length cobalt blue dress my eyes went straight to the side boob bam bam bam as the boob went up and down I was mesmerised! I must have spent roughly five, six minutes trying to take the perfect non blurry shot of the side boob then I pulled myself together and reminded myself it is about the clothes and you’re going to miss the collection if you do not snap out of obsessing over the boobs! So I moved on and re focused BUT then I was thinking gosh she has a baby, a baby Riley, this is not fair! I know girls can pop back to their shape after a baby but the boobs are another story, but not for Miss Dunn hers are perfect and yes I am jealous. To make it worse I met Jourdan after the show and as I was trying my best model pose (you can so see how tense/awkward I am just by looking at my mouth!) and all I think of is how I am going to look like raw chicken/sausage pie next to her. So after the legs, the sexy back, the best side boob that ever existed and the skin like butter she talks amazing, she has that proper London accent I love “ah whaaaaat” i’m thinking even her voice is flawless, but I guess this is why she is a super model. I could go on and on but lets get back to fashion…..
So back to what you want to hear; my queen piece was the floor length backless dress and that is not because Jourdan was wearing it (it so is) and the white laser cut almost crop top and wide leg white pants. I loved how the colour palate was unpredictable championing blue, green and orange and my favourite design feature was the attention to back details; backless, spegetti straps, and thick cross straps. All the splits were in the right place to flatter the legs and I can not forget the summer knits I can not wait to try these on.
Standing next to Jourdan Dunn makes you look like a raw chicken/ sausage pie.
The next show was the Sophia Webster presentation which I will talk about tomorrow.
PS
As I was writing this post I heard that Nicolas Ghesquiere is officially taking over from Marc Jacob’s at Louis Vuitton! This is exciting news and I can not wait to see what happens next at LV, let’s all hope that this time round Louis Vuitton does not suck him dry like his last job!
