BALI, UBUD – Alila Resort

by Claire Chanelle
Where: Bali, Ubud
Hotel: Alila Ubud Resort
Holiday Purpose: Relaxation, couple getaway, luxury destination holiday.

One of my all time favourite holidays was when I visited Indonesia. I started off in Singapore, then Borneo, traveled around Bali then visited Penang and Kuala Lumpur. I am going to start off this holiday review with Bali, Ubud as it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. This is the only hotel I have stayed in where I can not fault one factor and I still compare every holiday and hotel to this amazing experience. If you are looking for tranquillity and seclusion in the heart of Bali’s central foothills? Or you want to visit a hotel for pure romance and pure relaxation? Then look no further than the Alila Ubud Resort. The resort’s tropical beauty has been backed by numerous awards too, including the Conde Nast traveller 2011 Reader’s Awards for Best Hotel in Asia and the Subcontinent and it also placed highly in Forbes’ 2011 list of the World’s 20 Coolest Hotel Pools. We booked this hotel because I love amazing pools and due to the fact the Alila pool was award winning, I want to see for myself. The pool did not disappoint, it is actually more breath taking in real life and the ambience can not be justified in my words. I find it hard to relax but at the Alila I felt the most relaxed I have ever felt, there is something about this hotel that makes it magical.

It’s not surprising the hotel is so memorable; we were in the middle of a rainforest, having breakfast with the most breath taking views and lets not forget the wild moneys that would join us every meal time.  Alia Ubud is not your typical resort destination. Its 56 rooms are located in 14 two-storey blocks arranged to resemble a Balinese village and every room is designed in such a way as to have panoramic views of both the Ayung River and the surrounding volcanoes.

About 15 minutes from Ubud, Alila Ubud is perched on the edge of the rich green Ayung River valley. At dusk, monkeys migrate from the river bed back to the trees behind the property and the sound of the traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali floats up from the temple across the valley. I stayed in the Deluxe room, which has an outside bathroom and was my favourite feature of the accommodation.

I am one for the spa and I try out spa treatments everywhere I visit. The spa at the Alila was extremely impressive. I had a full body massage and a hair treatment. The rooms were beautiful and everything felt like it was outside even thought your are inside. I thought I couldn’t feel more relaxed until I had visited this spa. I remember being so in love with this hotel and how amazing it made me feel therefore I wanted to bootle up that feeling. I bought some oils from the spa because I wanted to have something (other than a photo) to take me back to the memory. To this day I smell the lemon grass oil and it reminds me of one of my favourite holidays. I have been privileged to stay in some fantastic hotels and visit some beautiful places but I still compare every holiday to this one. I can not recommend this hotel enough; form the accommodation, to the spa, to the staff, to the food; every element was 10/10 and this is the only hotel where I have nothing to fault.
This hotel is more for couples as opposed to families. It is the most perfect destination for a honeymoon or a proposal.
