I am truly excited to talk about two new designers I love and why I am loving them. I am also excited to talk to you about THE VANGUARD mentor project by NET A PORTER. THE VANGUARD project is in its second season. It is a global program turning today’s start ups into superstars. The SS19 collections are exclusive to NET A PORTER. Let me introduce you to the new wave of fashion talent. I have chosen two designers; one accessories brand and one ready to wear brand.

PETER DO

Coming from someone who studied fashion design, I fully appreciate the art of pattern cutting. Of course, the fabrics are key to luxury brands but it is the pattern that allows a garment to fit like a dream and makes us look and feel our best. I loved how these pieces made me feel because the cut was perfect. The added elements I loved were the unique design features. The removable collars and cuffs make the pieces wearable in different ways.
This brand is perfect for the office, great for the evening but styled right; you could wear it on the weekend. For example, the nude trousers (obsessed) can be styled with heels and a pretty shirt/blouse for the evening. You could then wear loafers and a white shirt for work or a cashmere knit and trainers for the weekend. It is a wearable brand that is unique and classic.

Who is Peter Do?

After graduating from FIT, Peter Do was awarded the LVMH Prize for Graduates, impressive! He was subsequently sought out to join the design team at CÉLINE, creating and developing runway collections under Phoebe Philo. In 2016, Peter moved back to the United States where he brought his talent to Derek Lam, contributing a fresh perspective to the American brand, resulting in both sartorial and sales acclaim. After much anticipation, Peter launched his namesake label in January 2018.

Ratio Et Motus

I had the same reaction with Ratio Et Motus, my heart sang. I just mentioned that launching a new ready to wear brand that is unique is hard but handbags are an even bigger challenge. If you have £1000 to £3000 to spend on a designer bag, you are going to stick to what you know (the super brands) and what you have been saving and longing for. It takes something special to come away from this pull. I am guilty of this and I cannot deny that a brand name is enticing when it comes to buying designer accessories. I do not buy anything for the sake of the brand but it does contribute to the process. My first thought was that I have not seen a design like this before. I loved the combination of modern meets vintage. I loved how one bag can be separated into two (see here) and that it is practical. The front mini bag can be removed and used as a clutch but it is also great for hosting your keys or something small that you need all the time. I loved the different colour combinations, the vintage, vegan leather interior and the fact that this brand cares about sustainability. It felt comfortable to wear and it is a practical bag. The price is reasonable too.
