You probably remember this dress from a previous post here. I wore this dress with biker boots and a jacket for a day time look. I have worn this dress with high heeled boots for a party and this look is another example how easy it is to style.
Someone left a really good comment on my blog yesterday asking “what is an investment pieces, can you give more examples.” I will write another article showing you more investment pieces and make a point of stating when I am happy to wear cheaper clothes and when I am wearing an investment, but for now this dress is a great example.
A black dress is a must, it’s a cliche saying but it really is a must. Because you will have it in your wardrobe forever please make sure you invest in a good quality one. Choose leather over faux and choose a simple, classic shape so you can style it different ways and it will last. Next time you want/need black dress (for example) think twice about going in Topshop or shopping on line at ASOS and choosing that £15 dress, you should consider the £50 dress or maybe like this dress the £295 that has more detail and the fabric is not polyester or faux fabric. It depends what you are looking for; a dress to wear one night so you don’t want to spend more than £20 (I do this all the time) or are you looking for a dress that you can re wear, re style and a dress that fits well and feels nice? When you have a that go to dress, that looks and feels amazing it’s very rare that it is going to cost £20 and if it does it’s not going to last.
Consider cost per wear; This dress was £295 and I have already worn it three times, cost per wear it is £98. I plan on wearing this at least another ten times next year. Therefore the cost per wear is £22. This is the between a throw away buy and an investment piece. Before you all say to me this dress is amazing, I love it, I want it but it’s too expensive, you need to realise yes this dress is amazing, yes it does look great and that’s why you love it! I also think because this dress is from Warehouse you don’t want to pay £295. Warehouse is evolving and this is their premium range. If this dress was in All Saints or Sandro or Kooples you would be happier to spend £295. In fact this dress would be at least double (probably triple) in any of those stores.
This dress is the perfect black dress because it covers all of the above. It also has the added bonus of the intercut laster detail, embroidery AND pockets. You are paying the extra for the luxury details.
If you loved the stress the first time you saw it, this will make sure you need it in your life!
My CHANEL bracelet is also an example of an investment piece. This was my first ever gift from Paris and I cherish it dearly because of this. This bracelet was pricey but I have worn it at least fifty times over five years. I can wear this bracelet with anything, even jeans and tee form Zara and it makes my outfit look more unique and luxury because your eyes are drawn to this statement. Accessories are a great way to transform an outfit and great investment pieces. I spend more on investment pieces where accessories are concerned.
This post was not sponsored, I truly love this dress and feel strongly about saving for quality items. This article was dedicated to Molly, the follower that requested a post on how to buy an investment piece. If you would like to request an article, all you have to do is ask, that’s what I am here for.
